| This is part 2 of a 3 part series called KINKS IN THE CHAIN. I came up with the
principle character in this book...TARN MAYLOCK...back in 1985. I was in High School at the time, and his violent
rebelliousness was exactly what I needed at the time. Tarn shot first and asked questions later. Tarn was a two-fisted
bastard who didn't take shit off of anyone. And Tarn was very lucky with the ladies. At the time I felt he was
the perfect character. I began work on Void Pulp Comics #1 in 1993, finishing and publishing it in 1995. Seven
years passed, and it wasn't until 2002 that I was able to tackle the job of completing the 2nd chapter in this
story. I learned how to use Photoshop during the creation of VP #2. Individual drawings of characters and backgrounds were scanned into my computer, and there I would composite them in a manner that was pleasing to my eye. Very very few of the pages actually exist as a single original. Some of the pages are composites of hundreds of different individual drawings. I also decided to not ink the book, instead using the computer to darken my pencils. Overall, I'm happy with the scripting, the storytelling, and the overall package of the book. But I'm not particularly happy with the artistic look I achieved. At times it words great, but other times...well, I just think its a little more hit-and-miss than I would like. It took me one year to complete the book and 500 copies were printed. The artwork is pencils, digitally darkened and then gray-scaled using the air-brush tool and various tools/filters available in Photoshop. Mark Stinson is the writer/artist of Void Pulp Comics, as well as Stygian Tales…a book containing all of his short illustrated horror stories to date.
