Bob Berdella

Bob Berdella was born in 1949 in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio. He died of natural causes in October of 1992 in a Missouri State Penitentiary.

Bob Berdella owned a store called Bob's Bazarre Bazaar in the Westport Flea Market in Kansas City, Missouri. The store specialized in strange items...many with dark and occult overtones. He was a fairly strange guy, but fairly well-liked. He even helped organize crime watch programs in his neighborhood.

In April of 1988 one of Bob's neighbors found a young man on his porch wearing only a dog collar around his neck. The man said that he had been the victim of sexual torture and abuse at the hands of Bob Berdella.

Police searched Berdella's home and found 357 photographs of victims in various positions of torture. Police also found torture devices, occult literature, ritual robes, human skulls and human bones. Within a few days, Police had an enormous amount of evidence against Berdella...and charged him with seven counts of sodomy, one count of felonious restraint and one count of first degree assault. Six homicide victims were identified out of the stack of photos found in Berdella's home.

Berdella's torture diary revealed how he liked to beat his victims, apply electricity to their genials, inject drugs, bleach, and other caustics into their eyes and throats, and then rape or insert foreign objects inside them.

Berdella pled guilty to one count of first and an additional four counts of second-degree murder. Berdella died of a heart attack in 1992 soon after writing a letter to his minister claiming that the prison officials refused to give him his heart medication. Berdella’s death was never investigated.

NOTE: My mom used to shop at Bob Berdella's shop in the Westport Flea Market. She liked the strange things he sold in his shop, and found conversing with him to be very interesting. Little did she know...
