Fantasy Poems
by Mark L. Stinson
Besides the dark depressing poems I have posted on my other poem-oriented page, these are all influenced or inspired by Fantasy novels or D&D. As silly as it sounds, I was lucky to have such an fun and easy escape during those days.
Good steel
in a warrior's cluch...
...forged by a master...
...tempered in blood...
...carnage has stained his soul.
TARN MAYLOCK
From the darkness he came,
a shadow amoung the bright.
Blood his only sustenance,
beware...he is the night.
If he finds you shaking,
cowering in dread,
He'll rip out your organs -
he'll make you dead.
Killing is his life,
yours ends on his knife.
(This next piece was in response to the attacks on D&D by religious people.)
TO THE FUNDAMENTALIST AT LARGE
"A Primer on How to Stop Corruption Among Teenagers"
A - Attack the purpose of everything they enjoy.
B - Bother adolescents instead of guide them.
C - Copy, "out-of-context" bad words and supposedly suggestive phrases from their favorite literature and music.
D - Damage their respect for you by being hypocritical whenever possible.
E - Everything teenagers touch is evil.
F - Facts are not important when arguing.
G - Give them advice like "do what God wants" and "follow what you have learned in church" instead of real "This is what happened to me" advice.
H - Hate all who hate, for they are sinners.
I - Ignore genuine problems in society, only deal with people who can't fight back (children/teens).
J - Jack up your teenager's mind with brainwashing.
K - Kill your teen's dreams whenever possible.
L - Lie for the greater "good."
M - Make up only things that are plausible.
N - Never admit you make mistakes.
O - Oppress all creative plans and ideas.
P - Patronize adolescents as though their minds were rotted out.
Q - Quit letting them try to form their own opinions.
R - Rob them of their freewill at an early age.
S - Save their soul at the cost of their freedom and life.
T - Taunt them with your near "Godliness" and obviously superior intelligence.
U - Unbend what they bend and destroy what they make.
V - Vanquish all hope and trust in their own ability to make decisions.
W - Waste your time trying to make teenagers not waste theirs.
X - Expect teens to all be on drugs.
Y - Yes, all boys are trying to get your daughter in the back of a chevy.
Z - Zads! Now you are ready to act like a real fundamentalist! Boy, aren't you cool - pushing your beliefs on everyone else.
In reality, the author of this essay would like all fundamentalists to curl up and rot...
